We are currently searching a financial controller for a global research-based consulting firm with a focus on developing the implementation and evaluation of public policy on global, national and local level serving private and public clients e.g. municipalities, the EU and various non-governmental organisations. With the ultimate goal to make a make a positive difference to society. Our client has offices based in Europe, Africa, EMEA and Asia and therefore has a vibrant and international work environment, you will be working for the head office in Rotterdam.


The role of Financial Controller has a wide range of responsibilities, from preparing the monthly reports and discussing these with the business on one end to hedging the budgets of the years to come on the other. What is more, you will be the liaison of the accountants and auditors and it is your job to coordinate and implement an effective internal control environment. As icing on the cake will business travel be part of your job and you will get the opportunity to visit various operating companies (approximately once per month).

Your responsibilities in a nutshell:

  • Preparing the monthly and yearly closings;
  • Risk management and analysis on activities;
  • Cash-flow forecasting;
  • Internal control;
  • Managing the budget cycle;
  • Supporting the finance staff at the operating companies
  • Preparing various management reports.

The role of Financial Controller is the key senior management position in support of the Group Controller. The Financial Controller reports to the Group Controller of the Holding and has a dotted line to the Country Management Directors(CMD)/Finance Directors of the operating companies.


The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with a commercial customer focus and an energetic and improvement oriented personality. You are not afraid to go off the beaten track to find creative solutions. Moreover, you are someone who speaks their mind, isn’t afraid of sleeves rolled up into the detail and got your feet firm in the ground. Ideally you have a strong understanding of a project based business and how cash is generated in these companies, furthermore you have experience with profit improvement initiatives  and you have gained international experience.

That’s not all, we also ask for:

  • An university degree in finance/accounting/(business) economics;
  • Experience with working capital management and cash forecasting;
  • Familiarity with monthly business performance review and management;
  • Willingness to go on (short) international business trips;
  • Fluency in English, Dutch is an advantage.

This role is preferably for 40 hours, however as of 32 hours is discussable.
